"My Favorite Utilities"

From the Judges of the Pocket PC magazine Best Software Awards 2004

This past year, over 80 experts judged 543 Pocket PC and Smartphone nominations for Pocket PC magazine Best Software Awards 2004. Our judges had plenty to say about their favorite products. In this issue we are publishing their comments about the programs nominated for the Utilities software category. The purpose of publishing the comments is to give insights into a variety of products—not to show how the judges voted. The winners and finalists can be found on our Web site (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/awards/main.asp). For the sake of brevity, we've included only one comment per product and edited them for clarity and brevity.

RepliGo

This is my preferred document viewer/converter for the third year in a row. It is feature rich, easy to use, compact, and reliable. Its desktop PC component converts Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other documents to RepliGo's document format without losing the layout and look of the original document. The RepliGo viewer on the Pocket PC displays the documents and allows you to bookmark or highlight sections, do text searches, cut-and-paste text to other Pocket PC applications, and more. The RepliGo viewer is available for Pocket PCs, Windows Mobile Smartphones, and other handheld operating systems."

Textmaker and Planmaker

"These two tie for this category. No other Pocket PC word processor or spreadsheet programs have as many functions and are able to open as many document types as these two apps from Softmaker.

Textmaker lets you change font size and type, and supports the insertion of tables and images. You can save your work in a variety of document formats.

Planmaker supports graphics, charts, a lot of formulas, and the customization of cell formats. It also provides cell, sheet and document protection, and is compatible with every single version of Excel (even the Mac). "
