Hi-fi Stereo Headsets

New Bluetooth headsets turn your Windows Mobile device into a high-fidelity stereo.

Low-power, high-fidelity wireless stereo has arrived. What has made this possible is the development of a relatively recent wireless specification known as Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). It’s built into all Bluetooth-enabled Windows Mobile 6 and many Window Mobile 5 devices. Your device will have to have A2DP Bluetooth to communicate with the Bluetooth headphones featured in this article.

Just like an article of clothing, Bluetooth headsets come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some of these headsets are small earbuds, but the majority of them are designed to cover the outer ear to help mute noise from the external environment. Acoustics are everything when it comes to headsets, and the devices featured in this article have excellent sound reproduction. However, you’ll pay $70 to $250 for this quality. But regardless of the size, shape, color, and price of these headsets, they all sound great.

Cardo S-2 Cardo S-2

$99.99 cardowireless.com

I really like these headphones because of their small size and exceptional audio reproduction. I also appreciate the way they collapse into a manageable size for packing into a gadget bag. The ear clips help hold the headphones in place without placing too much strain on the outside ear. A fully charged battery lasts most of the day in both talk and playback modes, making the S-2 ideal for a day-long outing of mobile music and podcasts.

Jabra BT320x Jabra BT320x

$79 jabra.com

I took this headset for a considerable spin prior to writing about them in an earlier Bluetooth article. They are definitely a good headset for the price, but they are a bit heavy. Because of this, my ears began to get uncomfortable after a few days of using them. I also had some trouble pairing this headset’s multimedia buttons (pause, next, previous, etc.) with the HTC Advantage I was testing it with. However, the BT320’s battery life and audio quality are more than acceptable. If you’re looking for a Bluetooth stereo headset with good sound quality, and only intend on using it occasionally, the BT320x is one of the least expensive solutions available.
