Experts' Favorite PDAs and Smartphones

We asked our Board of Expert Judges to tell us which Windows Mobile device they used most often as well as the new device they were most interested in trying out. We edited these comments for clarity and to avoid repetition.

Which Windows Mobile touch screen device do you use most often?

HP iPAQ hw6900 Series Mobile Messenger

Available at HP.com and through resellers

Score: 6.3/10 (3 respondents)

Comments: A well designed phone interface, built-in GPS, and PDA functionality allow me to stay in touch with everything I do. (Jack Cook).

HP iPAQ hx2495 Pocket PC

Available at HP.com and through resellers

Score: 7/10 (2 respondents)

The major strengths of this device include its integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and clear, crisp, and responsive display. I also like its zippy 520 MHz processor and ample internal storage memory. However, it does seem to require relatively frequent soft resets. (Nate Adcock)

HTC 6800 (Sprint Mogul)

Available at Sprint.com

Score: 9/10 (1 respondent)

I love the layout of the controls on the Mogul. Most of the buttons are right where I need them, and the slide-out QWERTY keyboard is great. This is one of the best devices available for both newcomers and advanced users. It strikes the right balance between ease of use and advanced features. However, the headphone adaptor is a little bulky and the QVGA screen is a little hard to read. I'd love to see a VGA screen in this device. (Doug Goldring)

HTC Advantage 7500/7501

Available through resellers like MobilePlanet.com

Score: 8/10 (2 respondents)

It has everything I've ever wanted in a mobile device, but it's too bulky to fit in a shirt pocket and crowds a coat pocket as well. Its features include a large 5-inch VGA screen, a fast processor, and an internal 8 GB mini-hard drive. If features mean everything to you, and you can live with its larger form factor, the Advantage is the best device available. (Mike Riley) The Advantage can replace your notebook if you don't require feature-rich PC applications. However, it could use a more powerful battery. (Helio Diamant)

HTC Touch

Available through resellers like MobilePlanet.com

Score: 8/10 (3 respondents)

The HTC Touch is amazingly small and lightweight, making it one of the few truly "pocketable" touch screen devices available. I love the innovative TouchFLO enhancements. It's not as user friendly as the iPhone, but it brings something new and valuable to Windows Mobile. I found the 200 MHz CPU performance to be somewhat slow and the lack of fast 3G data capability disappointing. (Lisa Gade)

HTC Trinity (P3600)

Available through resellers like MobilePlanet.com

Score: 8/10 (1 respondent)

It's a great Windows Mobile 5 device, but the lack of a built-in keyboard makes it more difficult to use for e-mail and instant messaging. (Mitchell Oke)
