A Pocket PC and a few well-chosen accessories are all you need.
This summer, I set off on a 14,000 mile vacation around the United States, better prepared for it thanks to my experiences on last year's sojourn (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_archives/mar04/travel.asp). My major challenge was to stay connected as I traveled. In an ideal world I would be able to go online and stay online wherever I went. Although we're not quite there yet, things are improving.
A "hotspot" is any location that allows you to connect to the Internet wirelessly, and the number of them around the nation is increasing at a gratifying rate. In addition, more hotels are offering high-speed FREE Internet connectivity as a way of attracting business. Several major chains have dedicated themselves to offering it in all their hotels. These include the following:
- Choice Hotels International (Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Clarion, Sleep Inn, Rodeway Inn, EconoLodge, and MainStay Suites)
- Six Continents (InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Stay Bridge)
- Best Western
- Hilton (Hampton Inn, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, and Homewood Suites)
- Radisson
- La Quinta
