BASIC TIPS
Adding or subtracting a series of numbers
If you are adding or subtracting a series of numbers on the calculator, it can be a pain to enter all of them, and the possibility of a typographic error also increases. An easy way to do such a calculation is to type the series of numbers with the plus (+) sign or minus (-) sign between them, and an equal to (=) sign at the end of the series, in a Word document or in a note. An example of a series and the format it should be typed in is as follows:
224+342+235-100+90+235=
Highlight the series of numbers by dragging the stylus across them, and then tap and hold on the numbers and select Copy from the resulting menu. You can then paste them in the calculator application by tapping Edit >Paste. The calculator application will perform the necessary calculations and display the result.

Copy a series of numbers from a Word document or a note into the calculator application, and the calculator will do the rest.
Entering e-mail addresses quickly
With the new e-mail open on your Pocket PC, tap on the "To:" field and then hit Menu >Add Recipient. (Pre-WM5 Pocket PCs: Tap on the Address Book icon at the bottom of the screen.) This causes your Contacts list to pop up, allowing you to select an address. The quickest way to do this is to start entering the first or last name of the contact you're looking for into the empty box immediately above the Contacts list. As you enter the name, Contacts filters the list so that it only displays items that have the letters you've entered somewhere in the name. Usually, you only need to enter 2 or 3 letters to see the name displayed. When you do see the name you're looking for in the list, tap on it and the e-mail address associated with it will be copied to the new e-mail you are creating.
Smartphones: When addressing a new message in the "To:" text box, type the name of the recipient and then select Menu >Check Names. If the name you entered has an e-mail address in your Contacts, that person's address will appear. Select Menu >Add Recipient if you want to choose an address from your list of Contacts.
Disable Error Reporting to get better performance (WM5 only)
Error Reporting is a program that automatically sends Microsoft an error report if the device experiences an error. Many users have reported that they get a huge performance increase and a more stable device if they turn off this feature. (Note: Error Reporting not available in HP iPAQs.) Here's how to do it:
- Go to Start >Settings >System tab >Error Reporting (Smartphones: select Start >Settings >Error Reporting).
- Select the "Disable error reporting" option (Smartphones: select Disable in the Error Reporting field).
