EXCELLENT SUPPORT FROM ILIUM SOFTWARE
I am a charter subscriber to the magazine and have used Pocket PCs for a number of years, currently using a Compaq iPAQ 3870. I recently had to do a hard reset on the iPAQ which caused all kinds of problems with regard to lost software and data (in spite of a full back-up and full sync moments before). In an attempt to recover data which was on my PC, I contacted a number of the software vendors who supplied the original software downloads for the iPAQ.
Responses from them have ranged from no response to extremely helpful. With regard to that last comment, I would like to commend Ilium Software for the way they have consistently handled my requests for help. In particular, Lee Stutesman has spent whatever time necessary with me on the telephone to recover all of my previous data from the company's ListPro and eWallet programs. I believe Ilium is one of your earlier advertisers since I used their software on my previous P/PC.
In light of the fact that some of the suppliers have not responded to my requests for help, I believe it would do a service for your readers to know that Ilium Software knows how to treat its customers properly.

USE IROCK! TO CONNECT YOUR POCKET PC TO YOUR CAR RADIO OR HOME STEREO WIRELESSLY!
As I was reading John Kennedy's article, "Ten Things to do with a Spare Pocket PC!" (page 77, Nov 2002), something caught my eye. In the section entitled "Turn your Pocket PC into a personal stereo," John suggested connecting the P/PC to the audio input jack on your car's audio system. I find the irock! Wireless Music Adapter (www.myirock.com/ players/irock300w.htm) to be a much better solution. Irock can be used to connect wirelessly to any FM radio. I purchased Irock from my local Comp USA for $29.99. It works like a charm not only on portable CD players but also on my Casio Pocket PCs and the BE-300 Pocket Manager. All you need to do is connect Irock to your Pocket PC, tune your FM radio to one of four FM frequencies, and play a tune on Media Player (or any Pocket PC music player).

WHERE ARE THE TODAY SCREEN WALLPAPER COPIES STORED?
The tip titled "Tap and hold to customize Today screen..." on page 6 of the November 2002 issue was great. I was playing around with it and imported a number of images to try out as wallpaper. However, I noticed that when I deleted one of the imported images I had selected as wallpaper, it still appeared in the background of the Today screen. I assume that a copy of the picture is made. My concern is that after I've played around with 10 imported pictures, there are now 10 copies of those pictures stored somewhere on my Pocket PC and taking up space. Do you know if they are deleted, and if not where I could find them so I can delete them?

Erik, as the original tip mentioned, when you tap and hold down on the file name of a GIF graphic in File Explorer, an Edit menu pops up with a "Set as Today Wallpaper" option at the bottom. Tap on this option and the graphic will appear in the background of your Today screen. What happens is that File Explorer creates a copy of the graphic you select and gives it the name "tdycust.gif." This is the graphic that is used as the Today screen background, not the original .GIF file.
If you select another .GIF and set it as the Today screen wallpaper, tdycust.gif is overwritten with the new image. In other words, there is only one tdycust.gif file, no matter how many original .GIF files you imported to play around with. Delete the imported .GIFs and that's all you have to worry about.
