Lexar Media, Pretec, and SanDisk have all announced the introduction of super-high-capacity CompactFlash storage cards. Pretec announced 1.5, 2, and 3 GB cards last November. SanDisk has announced that they expect to start shipping 2 GB and 4 GB CompactFlash cards this summer. Finally, Lexar Media announced its impending introduction of 2 GB and 4 GB CF cards. As of March 11, 2003, the only cards we could find commercially available were 1 GB cards from SanDisk and Lexar Media.

MultiMeteor has announced that it will host the fourth Pocket PC Summit at the fall CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment show, on October 20-23, 2003, at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. The conference brings together industry leaders to discuss the business of Pocket PC technology, wireless applications, and services. The expanded forum will cover all Microsoft Windows Powered mobile devices, including Pocket PCs and Phone Edition devices. The Summit will also cover the new Tablet PCs. The Pocket PC exhibition on the CTIA Wireless show floor will spotlight the most innovative mobile solution providers in the business.
The third annual Best of Industry Awards Gala, presented by Pocket PC magazine, will also take place during the event. "The Pocket PC Awards ceremony is a celebration of the efforts of hundreds of developers whose products increase the enjoyment and productivity of Pocket PC users. Winners in over 50 categories, selected by experts from around the world, receive their awards on stage. The Taiwan company Mitac displayed a number of Windows Powered devices in March at the CeBIT computer show in Germany. The Mio 338 Plus is an entry-level Pocket PC with a 400 MHz XScale processor, 64 MB RAM, 40 MB flash ROM, and SD expansion slot. The Mio 339 is similar to the 338, but comes with a built-in 300K CMOS camera, MPEG video playback, and an integrated MP3 player with wired remote. The Mio 558 comes with built-in Bluetooth and wireless LAN, along with CompactFlash and Secure Digital expansion slots. It has built-in VoIP support for communicating via voice over IP networks.

Mitac also showed off its new Mio 8380, developed using the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 specifications. The 8380 has a built-in zoom-capable digital camera capable of MPEG4 recording, and an SD expansion slot. Mio has not announced when it will introduce these devices in the U.S.

In mid-February Microsoft and Intel announced the availability of a Windows Powered Smartphone concept design based on the Intel Personal Internet Client Architecture (IntelPCA). The hardware-software concept design allows manufacturers to expedite development and reduce the cost of bringing Smartphone devices to market.
