Microsoft Business Contact Manager in Outlook and Pocket PC questions

I’ve recently bought MS Office Small Business Edition so I can begin using the Business Contact Manager. I’m wondering if the Pocket PC is what I need to use the Business Contact Manager separately from regular Outlook Contact Manager? I want to use both, because the regular Contact Manager is for personal data. There are different fields in the Business Contact Manager and Account “folders” within Outlook. Will those fields map to a Pocket PC/Smartphone separately?

Laura Zuber

Laura, unfortunately the Microsoft Business Contact Manager is not compatible with the Pocket PC or the SmartPhone. Further, the Pocket PC and the Smartphone only support synchronization with the default contact folder in Outlook.

Which iPAQs accept Expansion Packs?

In your November 2003 review of new iPAQs you mentioned that the HP h1940 model cannot use the optional slip-on Expansion Packs. Do you know if this is also true for the model h1945 (supposedly the same model, but the h1940 is shipped to large resellers like CDW for enterprise users)? I have read contradictory material about the SDIO compliance for the h1940 as well.

David C. Jordan

David, to answer the last question first, the iPAQ h1940 does have an SDIO-compatible card slot.
“Expansion Pack” is a term used to refer to sleeves or jackets that slip onto iPAQs and add hardware features. For example, HP offers a “Dual Card Expansion Pack” that slips onto some iPAQs to add a PC Card slot and a CF card slot. Expansion Packs have been an option with iPAQs since the original h3600. However, HP redesigned the size and shape of the h1900, h2200, and h4000 series iPAQs. They no longer accept these sleeves, but the h5100, h5500, and h3900 series and earlier devices do.

Can exit Giga Bar without uninstalling it!

I was surprised when I saw that Elisabeth Liddell wrote that she couldn’t exit GigaBar without uninstalling it. That isn’t so! One of the internal functions that can be applied to GigaBar is “Close GigaBar.”

Requesting advice for left-handed users

Hi, I live in Holland and just recently bought an HP iPAQ h5555. I’m left-handed (as is about 10% of the world’s population). For us “lefties” the scroll bars and such are on the wrong side of the screen. I wonder if you could write an article about how left-handed users can adapt to their Pocket PCs. Are there any utilities that could swap things to the other side of the display?

Hans Berkers

Hans, unfortunately I’m in the other 90% of the population and don’t have much advice about this topic. However, I’m officially asking any left-handed users reading this message to send in tips on how they adapt to the Pocket PC’s right-handed user interface. I’ll publish the best ones.
