Accessories Every Gamer Needs!

As a gamer, I've come across a few accessories that make my gaming sessions a lot more enjoyable. If you play a lot of games on your Pocket PC, you owe it to yourself to take a look at these enhancements for your device. They'll help make your games more enjoyable.

Storage cards

As the old maxim goes, you can never have enough storage space. The default memory on most Pocket PCs gets gobbled up pretty quickly once you start putting games, audio files, and movies on your device. Lucky for all of us, storage cards are getting cheaper by the month, so there's no reason to go without space. Whether your device takes CompactFlash, Secure Digital, or the newer miniSD card, many options are available. For most people, I'd recommend getting a 1 or 2 gigabyte storage card for games, music, and even a couple movies.

The Transcend 80X Secure Digital Card offers fast 80X performance and sizes ranging from 128MB all the way up to 2GB. What I like about these cards is that they offer 80X performance for about the same price as standard-speed cards running at 1x-16x. The "X" refers to how many times faster the card runs than the basic transfer rate of 150 kilobytes per second. On games requiring a lot of data transfer (those with large maps, large movies and sound files, etc.), a higher X-rating can make a difference.

For more information on the 80X Secure Digital Card, please visit the Transcend Web site (http://www.transcendusa.com). The Transcend card can be used in devices with a Secure Digital slot. The 1GB version of the card lists for $58.50 on the Transcend Web site but can be found for less than $50 on price comparison sites like PriceGrabber.com, Shopping.com, and PriceWatch.com.

Kingston Technologies, a well-known player in the data storage industry, offers inexpensive Compact Flash Type I cards with capacities ranging from 128MB up to 1GB. In addition, Kingston offers more expensive, high-speed CF cards in 1, 2, and 4GB capacities.

Kingston's inexpensive 1GB Compact Flash memory card provides a lot of space in the reliable CF format.

The price of the regular 1GB CF card is around $55. The price of the 1 GB version of the high-speed Kingston 1GB Elite Pro 50X CompactFlash Card is around $80.

For those with miniSD slots on their devices, SanDisk makes several cards in that format ranging from 128MB to 2GB. All SanDisk miniSD cards come with an adapter that lets you use the card in a full SD card slot.
