You just bought a Pocket PC and you want
help getting the most out of it. Or you thinking about buying one and
you want to find out more about it. Where do you go? Check these sites
out.
This is a new site from Chris De Herrera and Richard Kettner, a
couple of knowledgeable guys well known in the Windows CE world.
CECITIES has 15 message boards where you can post questions on a variety
of topics, including the Pocket PC, Handheld PC, Palm-size PC, News,
Developer issues, Shopping questions and more. It has links to other
great Windows CE sites, developer sites, product sites, and more. Again,
this is a new site, but it's definitely one to bookmark!
This is Chris De Herrera's original Windows CE site and one of my
favorites. Chris has the most up-to-date and comprehensive set of
Frequently Asked Questions to be found for Windows CE/Windows Powered
products. Chris currently has 40 FAQs on his site along with pictures,
screenshots, comparisons and articles covering every version of Windows
CE.
www.craigtech.co.uk/pocketpc
Craig Peacock has told me that his site will be hosting a Pocket PC
area, and knowing Craig, it will have some great info and help for
Pocket PC users.
This is our site and we have a wealth of information for you whether
you are someone considering buying a Pocket or Handheld PC. Pocket PC
(previously Handheld PC Magazine) is the first and only print
publication serving the needs of Windows CE/Windows Powered Handheld and
Pocket PCs. You will find all of the back issues of the magazine, tons
of tips and an up-to-date product listing.
www.microsoft.com/windowsce/uplink
Uplink is a new site from Microsoft for Palm-size PCs. There are
tips, how-to's and downloads for you here. You can search through the
Uplink archives including Topic Pages, How To's, Tips, Columns, Product
Reviews and Ask the Expert.
The new site for Pocket PC from Microsoft. Same concept as Uplink
with reviews, columns, how-tos, tips and product reviews. Pocket PC will
also offer products on the site.
I'm sure there will be other sites supporting the Pocket PC, but at
the time I am writing this, these are the only ones I know about. If you
have or know about any Pocket PC site that should have been mentioned,
let me know and I'll take a look at it.
This will be my last column as employee of Thaddeus Computing, the
company that publishes Pocket PC magazine. By the time you read
this, I will be working as Technical Editor for Handango (www.handango.com),
an online store supporting users of Windows CE, PalmOS and Symbian PDAs.
I worked at Thaddeus for eight years, starting out in the mailroom
and working my way up to network administrator and technical editor.
I'll continue to contribute this column, but will do so from Handango's
offices in Dallas, Texas. In fact, now that I've shed my network
administrator responsibilities, I may even have more time to write about
Windows Powered products and services.
I may be in Texas now, but in the next issue I'll still ... see you
ONLINE!
