Pocket Plan: Project Management on Your Handheld

Pocket Plan is a project management tool designed for Pocket PCs, Handheld PCs, and Symbian mobile devices. Pocket Plan is based on the popular Microsoft Project series, in which a project is usually entered with a start and end date.

In Pocket Plan, you create "resources," which are the individuals or groups who will participate in your project. You create "tasks," which are the necessary steps required to get to your project goal. You then assign resources to tasks, so that the work or time required for project completion can be calculated. Pocket Plan offers the following functions:

  • Task creation
  • Task constraints (tasks that need to start "as soon as possible," "fixed start/end dates," etc.)
  • Task work length (days, months)
  • Assignment of resources to tasks
  • Task dependencies (tasks that cannot begin until another task is completed)
  • Task summarizations
  • Project tracking (comparing actual work done against estimated project completion)
  • Fixed rates/cost option for resources
  • Project plan and resource cost summary view
  • Project baseline comparisons
  • Definition of resource work hours
  • Automatic/manual calculation of start and end dates
  • Set workday hours
  • Font and display setting options
  • Two-way synchronization (via Active- Sync) with MS Project 98, 2000 and 2002 files
  • Task, Resource and Gantt (Fig. 1) views
