I recently had a problem where my HP Jornada 680 Handheld PC would no longer communicate with my Kyocera 2255 mobile phone. It used to work, then all of a sudden it quit. The problem wasn't the phone's cable--it was allowing me to connect and dial from my desktop to my phone. I obtained a new connectivity cable for the Jornada, but that didn't solve the problem either. And it wasn't the communications port on the Jornada because I could connect to my desktop PC.

I contacted Jim George, a support representative at Kyocera. With Jim's help we quickly determined that the problem was different "COM port" speeds. I had adjusted the COM port speed on my phone to try and increase the connection speed with my desktop PC. Consequently, when I tried to connect to my Jornada, which was set to a lower communications speed, they couldn't communicate with each other. I adjusted the Kyocera's speed back to match the Jornada's and it worked again. Thanks to Jim and Kyocera's tech support!

Jeff; thanks for the feedback. Pocket PC users should also be aware of this problem.

I recently read "Synchronizing the Enterprise," the article on syncing Outlook e-mail subfolders with ActiveSync (www.PocketPCmag.com/_archives/Mar02/sync_enterprise.asp). It was extremely helpful to understand some of the available options, but I'm still at a loss.

My office just purchased forty iPAQ 3850s and I was "volunteered" to take the lead on learning as much as I could about these units, the Pocket PC software, and using the devices with Microsoft Outlook 2000. We are all connected to Windows NT servers. Most of my co-workers want/need to synchronize their personal .pst e-mail folders. How do you accomplish this? I haven't seen it addressed anywhere on the Web. Also, can you recommend any online training or booksto someone stuck in my position?

Hi, Jim. To select the folders you want to synchronize using ActiveSync, click on the Options icon, select Inbox from the Mobile Device list, click on the Settings button. This pops up the Mail Synchronization dialog box, which lets you select the Inbox folders you want to synchronize. But remember that these devices do not have unlimited memory so be careful not to select too much info. I have not seen any training documentation; that is part of the reason that I wrote the article in the first place. I believe that someone needs to write a book that focuses on documenting real user scenarios to help with implementations like yours.
