Judges' Comments: Information Managers and Internet-Related Software

Our 38 expert judges for the Pocket PC Awards had plenty to say about the 438 products they judged. We published their comments relating to communications programs and games in the last issue of Pocket PC magazine. In this issue we are publishing their comments on information managers and Internet-related software.

The purpose of publishing experts' comments is to give insights about a variety of products, not to show how the judges voted. (The winners and finalists in the Pocket PC Awards can be found on our Web site (www.PocketPCmag.com/_archives/jan03/winners.asp) For the sake of brevity, we included only one judge's comment per product, and we've edited each comment down to its essence.

Cash Organizer 2002 Deluxe is a full blown finance tracker that enables you to do most of the things you would do in a desktop application on your Pocket PC. It combines advanced functionality with a nice clean user interface. (www.inesoft.com)

Stock Manager allows you to use any connection (ActiveSync or Internet connection) to get the latest stock information, and gives a very good overview of your stock portfolio. I was impressed with the user interface that can show a lot of different views without ever cluttering your screen. (www.tinystocks.com)

PoQuick Money Professional is an easy-to-use finance tracker that will make users of home finance tracking software like Quicken feel right at home. Unfortunately, the ability to synchronize with desktop finance tracking applications is missing. (www.mastersoftmobilesolutions.com)

PocketExpense Pro gives you an easy-to-use tool to track your expenses. Expense records can be exported to Excel and macros that come with PocketExpense allow the creation of different views in Excel. (www.scarybearsoftware.com)

ListPro tops my list because it is the most stable and easy-to-use list manager available. A large collection of lists can be downloaded from the developer's Web site. Finally, the companion desktop PC version of ListPro is top-notch. (www.iliumsoft.com)

VOShoppingList has a nicely developed user interface. The Tax Rate option is great because it lets you see the true total. (www.voscorp.com)

TreNotes has a very clean and easy-to-use interface. The icons are useful, but can be distracting if you use too many of them. Finally, when you go to enter notes, the input panel does not come up automatically and you have to click to enable it. (www.fannsoftware.com)

Listwatch gets good marks for its simple interface and low price of $7.50. I also like the fact that it supports importing comma-delimited files. (www.birdsoft.net)
