Accessories Make the Difference

Hardware accessories add features and functionality to Pocket PCs and Smartphones

Accessory: an object or device not essential in itself but adding to the beauty, convenience, or effectiveness of something else.

—Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary

When you purchase a Pocket PC or Smartphone, you get a relatively self-sufficient device with the essentials built-in and ready to use. You do not get something that is everything for everyone. Fortunately, Windows Mobile devices are highly customizable. Thousands of user-installable software programs are available from third-party developers. In addition, a vast array of hardware accessories are available. You can turn it into a TV, an FM radio, a GPS navigation system, or a music and video player. You can spruce up the look of your device with a stylish case, or add a digital camera card so you can snap photos or capture short videos. You can expand the memory by gigabytes, interface wirelessly with mobile phones, and a whole lot more.

This issue of Pocket PC magazine focuses on hardware accessories. We have individual reviews of a number of excellent products. In addition, we asked our board of experts to share their opinions on the most useful accessories.
