iPAQ Pocket PC in short supply -­auctioned on eBay!

Apparently, Compaq's new iPAQ H3600 Pocket PC is worth its weight in gold (almost). It's been in extremely short supply since it was introduced the end of last month. Supply problems have be partly due to high demand and the small number of units initially available.

We've seen reports of new iPAQ's being auctioned off on eBay for two to three times their retail price of $500.

Microsoft is giving away the Windows® CE eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0, a complete development environment for creating applications and system components for Windows Powered devices, including the Pocket PC and Handheld PC. eMbedded Visual Tools includes eMbedded Visual Basic and eMbedded Visual C++. These versions of the desktop development tools are optimized for embedded systems development. Palmax Pocket PC scheduled for shipment

Palmax Technology will be introducing its line of color- and monochrome screen Pocket PCs in the U.S. through the McGlen Internet Group(www.mcglen.com). The monochrome-screen Pocket PC will have a built-in 56 Kbps modem and a MultiMedia Card slot and will retail for around $200. The color-screen device will accept an optional digital camera card, similar to the card used with the Casio E-100/105/115. The products were to be available in late July, but as of July 31 there were no references on www.mcglen.com

ePods provides ePodsOne to online users

ePods is a Web portal designed to provide its users customized and simple access to their e-mail and the Internet. They have announced that they are shipping the ePodsOne, a Windows CE-tablet that features an 8.2-inch touch-screen and a 32-bit RISC processor. The tablet costs $199. In addition, you must purchase an ePods service plan, which start at $24.99 for 36 months. The ePodsOne comes with a 129 MHz MIPS processor; 16 Mb of RAM and 16 Mb of ROM; 8 Mb of Flash memory; an 8.2" diagonal 640 by 480 colors touchscreen; 2 USB ports; an 8-hour rechargeable NiMH battery; 1 Type II PC Card slot; 1 Type II CompactFlash slot; and a built-in 56K V.90 modem. It is unclear whether the standard Windows CE Handheld PC Pro Edition software comes with this device. For more information, visit ePods at www.epods.com

Hitachi ships new ePlate H/PC Pro tablet

Hitachi has begun shipping the latest version of its ePlate tablet-style Handheld PC Pro, the HPW-630ETR. The new device comes with an improved, transflective LCD display that is viewable indoors and out. The devices will retail for about $1,500.
