Can't start application installed on storage card

My HP Jornada 720 Handheld PC flashes a warning message about using memory cards when I insert the card and when I reset the Jornada. The result is that I am unable to use applications installed on storage cards. Is there a way to disable the message?

Elly Gorodetzer, Jerusalem, Israel

Elly, you're having this problem because you're tapping on "No" when the warning message flashes. That tells the Jornada that you don't want to use the card while operating on batteries. Tap on "Yes" and you will be able to start the application. There is no way to disable that message.

Searching for a "Find" feature

I am the proud owner of a Compaq iPAQ H3630 Pocket PC and was wondering if you knew of any programs for this device that will search within text files and report each and every occurrence of a string of text and allow me to open and close the reported files from within that program?

I want to search text files within several subfolders for text entries in the same way I can with an advanced search in Windows 98/2000 etc. I want to type in a text string and have the program search subfolders for each entry of text and list all files that contain the text query. I then want to open each reported file and view the contents, closing and opening each one respectively.

I would be grateful if you could help in any way.

Ernie Brooks, U.K.

Ernie, the "Find" feature accessed at the bottom of the Start menu will let you search for text strings in Calendar and Contacts entries, Inbox, Word, Excel, or All Data. It lists the items that have the text string. You then tap on the entry to open the item. In Word and Excel documents, you can use their respective Find features to search for the text string within the document.

Where's the Intermec Handheld PC without camera?

I am very interested in purchasing this unit but without the camera. Your article (www.pocketpcmag.com/Mar01/intermec.stm) mentioned a version without the camera, to be available in the first quarter of 2000. I talked to an Intermec technician yesterday who said that he hasn't heard of a version without the camera being developed. Any additional info you can provide would be appreciated.

John Gillies

John, I was also very interested in this. When I reviewed the device, the 6651's product manager told me that was the plan. But since then, they have backed off. When I find out more, I'll publish it. But for now, it seems that the version without the camera is on long-term hold.

How do I print to a Pentax PocketJet II without an infrared adapter?

Recently I was successful printing from my Aero 1550 to a desktop printer using the excellent program PocketPrintCE. It worked fine. But I also own a PocketJet II by Pentax (www.pentaxtech.com). I am trying to avoid buying the expensive ($100) infrared module for the Pocket Jet. Is there a way to print to its standard parallel interface? Thanks for your answer and my best regards.
