When I do a backup using activesync I get an error saying that crdsys.vlt in \windows is in use and can't be backed up. After making sure that no programs are running, I hit the RETRY button and get the same error. If I hit SKIP ALL, the backup completes, but without the file in question. The file is about 201KB in size and gets updated regularly and resides in the IPAQ File Store in a directory called Mobile Guardian Shield and in the windows directory.
It's more of a nuisance than a major problem but I would love to know what the problem is.
Any thoughts?

Did you try a soft reset? What about backing up to an SD or MMC card? If you can backup to a memory card, do that, then hard reset the unit, then try to ackup again. Good Luck. The hx4700 rocks, I am surprised to hear about troubles backing up.

Caleb - Good questions. After performing a soft-reset I used the IPAQ BACKUP utility this morning to backup the device (including the IPAQ Filestore). I received three "File could not be included" errors:
\iPAQ File Store\2577\autorun
\iPAQ File Store\Program Files\Mobile Guardian Shield\crdsys.vlt
\iPAQ File Store\Program Files\Mobile Guardian Shield\CredReg.txt
I am hesitant to perform a hard-reset. I have had the device (and CRDSYS.VLT problem since November and haven't had to hard-reset yet. I am nervous that I might lose something...
Since the files in question are in the Filestore, I think I'll ignore the issue until I need to perform a hard-reset in the future since the FileStore should be "safe" storage.
Thanks for your help, I'll update this thread when I have new info[:)]
BTW - I totally agree that the HX4700 is a great machine, I exhanged an H5450 w/2-year TAP for it[:D] I miss the fingerprint recog. and the vibrating alarms, but the 4700 is much more stable, faster and easier on the eyes.

The files that aren't backing up out of the file store shouldn't matter. I didn't even know you could back the file store up. The only reason I would do that is to move the files to a new/different device. I would personally do the hard reset. Worst case, just copy the files to the desktop, then put them back if need be. The file store won't change, its designed to stay after a hard reset, and you have a backup of everything, but if you don't feel save, don't worry too much. I have only had to hard reset on accident. Sometimes when I put the unit in my pocket the switch on the battery accidentally goes to unlock, and the unit loses power for 4 or 5 hours without my noticing, and poof, fresh new device. Good Luck.

Hi Steve,
Remove your SD card and put your Ipaq in the craddle. Synchronize and do a backup. Remove Ipaq from craddle, put your SD card back and put your Ipaq back in the craddle synchronize and do backup. Problem should be gone.
Take care,

Another thankyou from me. Found this post when I Googled crdsys.vlt and registered with the forum so that I could say thanks. Simple, but only when you know how.
