Best Win CE 1.0 software & sites?

What are the best sites for Windows CE 1.0 software and what software titles are recommend?

Also, does anyone have any Windows CE 1.0 freeware, trials or shareware they'd like to share with me?

As HPCFactor's article (http://hpcfactor.com/support/windowsce/ ) on the WinCE history states, "Now-a-days finding software, information and other such Windows CE 1 related web sites is very hard to do. The official Microsoft Web site doesn't seem to recognise the existence of any mobile device operating system before that of CE 2.1."

Unfortunately, that's true. When I looked around for WinCE 1.0 software some months ago, i found almost nothing...

There're still some apps worth downloading; for example, the WinCE 1.0 Power Toys.

Read for examplehttp://www.hpcfactor.com/reviews/software/microsoft/wince-10-ptoys/ on Power Toys 1.0 for Windows CE 1.0x.

Your comments only serve to emphasize my reasons for starting this thread; BECAUSE Windows CE 1.0 software is notoriously difficult to find, I started this thread hoping that someone would have some suggestions!

I also have noticed that Microsoft seem to have done whatever they can to "forget" about Windows CE 1.0, with virtually no reference to it on their site... A little, especially since that's where it all began (for Microsoft anyway)!

Well, financially, WinCE 1.0 (and even 2.0 + the entire Palm-size PC platform) was a disaster for both MS and some device manufacturers - IIRC, way under a million WinCE 1.0 Handheld PC's were sold worldwide. Furthermore, only a portion of the advertisd software were written to it. I still have the original ads and software preview leaflets in my 320LX box (I can scan them some day if interested - they are now in the "computing history" category and definitely a good read). Not even a tenth of the promised software have finally been released for the 1.0 platform.

I know all to well what you're saying- I was one of only a handful of people in Australia to own a Windows CE 1.0 device (apparently, I was THE 2nd person in Australia to own one)!

At the time however, I wasn't too fussed about adding extra functionality... After all, how many people had a Windows-powered computer (complete with Pocket Office and Pocket Internet Explorer!) the size of a large purse?

Programs the can "unofficially" enhance the Handheld PC's functionality would be helpful....

Things like the Pocket PC programs Pocket Tweak, RegKing, RegEdit, etc...

Of course, given the rarity of CE 1.0 programs, I'll take anything I can get my hands on!

I know of one 1.0 registry editor:http://www.grundlesoftware.com/wince/RegEditCE.exe (seehttp://www.grundlesoftware.com/regeditce.htm )

Thanks!

well, i have three links

http://velo.8k.com/
www.cearchives.com
http://tucows.com/downloads/Windows/PDA/WindowsCE/

unfortunately, cearchives.com has recently been changed (tucows also but they retained everything). but you should still be able to find 1.0 programs there.

hi, highly recommend cmonex's sites. they are great. I also have a cassiopeia ce1 hhpc-model A11a. I have a cd "CE PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE FOR WINDOWS CE" -100 shareware & operating demoware programs. If you need a copy contact me for details. [:D]

yes they're great :)
i forgot to tell about pocketpccity, the former wincecity.http://www.pocketpccity.com/software-hpc.html
the links sometimes are a bit tricky, as the main program categories for hpc (not hpc pro! but wince 1.0 and 2.0) are linking to the hpc pro categories. but you simply remove the "pro" bit from the url, and you'll get the original hpc categories :) and after that they're linked correctly. :)
what's that cd, btw? how did you get it? :)

Don't count on getting a copy- I'm still waiting on a copy; he sends me E-Mails every now and then asking if I want it, but then never actually sends it!
I gave up in the end...

Hi Is anyone still reading this ? probably not.

Replying to Cyba_cowboy; here is my answer! after several emails, Cyba_c still refused to pay the postage costs..even though it was minimal and i could easily afford it. I refused to send Cyba_cowboy anything on a matter of principle. I went to the trouble of copying the cd's and other programs and he still refused to pay the postage costs. So i didn't send him the cd's + programs.

If anyone wants these YOU will have to pay the postage costs, not me.

Anyway, I have the most up-to-date Toshiba laptop (18 July 2008), plent of ram-4GB,  heaps of features and another  powerful desktop but i have just spent hours getting my pre-dinoasurian Cassiopeia a11a working again. I used LI-IOn batteries. They were great for 3 months but then it completely froze and i put it away. After 15 months it unfroze by itself and i am using NiMH batteries.  It is old-old but so handy!!!

I can also get it to speak to both laptop & PC via floppy disk. I will invest $25 in buying the correct cabling using USB to transfer data quickly.

Any comments by anyone who is reading this? Or am I the only person in the world who is still using my ancient Handheld Cassiopeia a11a -CE1 ???? Is there anyone still reading this ???

I have an A-10, and it still works nicely. There is a version of Tascal Registry Editor for CE 1, which is still downloadable from Joe Blow's site ( http://velo.8k.com/ ), Many of the other links on that page are still good (see the bottom of that page for a cool Yahtzee clone called YachtCE). See these pages for other examples of cool CE 1 software:

http://www.oohito.com/wince/sh3_j.htm

http://www.nsknet.or.jp/~skimoto/ (all the H/PC games have CE 1 versions; see each game's page for links)

Miri's Popup Filer is a nice alternative file explorer for CE 1:

http://www.miri.org/Software/miriFiler.shtml#DOWNLOAD (download links near bottom of the page)

QScribe is a nice notes organizer for CE 1:

There's Scott Ludwig's port of Space Invaders to CE 1:

http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/files/Invaders10.zip

There are a few cool CE 1 apps here:

Check this site as well for lots of CE 1 apps (with more being uploaded as users find them):
