Has anyone encountered an active sync (error 608). I tried soft resetting and it did not work. I can still sync via IR. Dialog Box looks like this:
"Communications Error
Cannot start communications with desktop computer Remote networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 608) Please reconnect your device. If the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions proivded by the manufacturer. "
I also get a RAS dial error when I connect usb using pc connection

Obviously a comm error with the port. Are you using XP? Have you installed the SP2? There are firewall issues with that and MS Activesync. Need to go into the control panel and allow it in the firewall settings.
Try deleting the partnership in the AS program and reestablishing it all over.

Thanks Rich, I have tired all those prevuiusly and gave it one more shot again today after your suggestion and USB still does not work. IR does work however. That is how I have been sync-ing.

1 - Activesync 3.8
2 - MP900 upgraded to CE.NET
3 - Desktop is XP Home w/SP1 plus other updates (SP2 crashes my verizon online connection on that unit for some stupid reason). Notebook is XP Pro SP2
Also: I have AS set to sych with 2 Pcs. My Desktop unit is on a home network. Notebook is part of a domain but is also uses wireless at home. AS has worked via usb with these two units for over a month and then just stopped. Previously, I had the 900 synced to the same desk top unit and a pc with XP Tablet 2005. I have all setting right for USB but get the comm error. When I switch to IR, it syncs fine.
I am concerned there is a hardware issue with the USB port since pc link does not work either. I have even tried turing off the firewall and had no success.
As always Rich and John- your help is sooooooooo appreciated.
Yes, I am set to USB connection when I am attempting to use the USB as sync. I even soft reset after I make the switch sometimes.

Have you tried installing the newest usb drivers from NEC for the CE.NET 4.2 os?

And another question: have you checked the usb cable to make sure that it is functioning? Could be the cable got twisted or something...it is the standard mini-usb one...

I am going check out the trouble shooting and the new driver I didnt know of a"new" USB driver justtheone I got from the site before. I'm still not understanding why it would just stop working cold. The cable is good btw. Thanks..that was a kind of a no brainer that I should have checked. I have 3 or 4 of them for crying out loud...

I am seeing the exact same problem with my IPAQ 6925.
I also sync with 2 computers (both running XP SP2).
I tried upgrading re-installing the Active Sync 4.1 but no help.
I also upgraded to Active Sync 4.5 per Microsoft site. But no avail.
Did anyone find a solution to this problem ?
