I would appreciate users listing devices that use BT and are Pocket PC compatible. Really looking for a list of items other than a keyboard, mouse or cellphone but these can also be listed for reference purposes.
Thanks

Don't forget GPS receivers (I've used Socket's and TomTom's). Sony-Ericsson will soon have a Bluetooth remote controlled mini racer car! (But someone will need to write a program to control it from a Pocket PC, since it's specifically designed for use with their Bluetooth phones.)

Sure! I have a short article on our site:http://www.bluetoothnews.com/
The article is still linked on the main page. Of course, it'd be great if you referenced our home page instead of the article itself.
Thomas and I had a chance to play with the prototypes at CeBIT and CITA. Since these were hand made, SEM said they cost more than real cars.[:0]

I'd like to see a company manufacture a pocket size blue tooth modem that connected to the cell company instead of a phone jack. That way I could use my current PDA on the net anywhere I could get a signal from my current provider. An added provision could be a program that would enable the PDA to be used as a cell phone through the cell modem. The modem could be run on a PDA battery so that it was just as mobile as a cell phone or PDA.
David Shier
Unfortunately, I don't think that we will see such a device. The problem is that you would need something to physically connect to the cell phone and each cell phone has a different connector and different communications requirements. This was done with wired cellular modems (see the digital phone card from www.SocketCom.com) but that's expensive. Plus, many new cell phones have Bluetooth included, so a Bluetooth cellular modem would have a very limited market.

Hi Bob. Do you have any idea whether the a blue tooth SD card can be used in a notebook PC with a card reader? I have an ACER Travelmate 660LMi (or near enough) and i'd like to bluetooth enable it. Just wondering if this might work? Oh and while i am at it (if this is the right place) would my SPV recognise a bluetooth SD? I think its SD/IO...
Thanks and great job by the way!

Bob_Katayama
Yes you can as long as the BT SD card comes with desktop Windows drivers. Maybe easier to get a separate USB BT Dongle though. If the other unit in question has SDIO and you have drivers for the BT SD card that's compatible then again YES.

Indeed, you won't see a pocket sized BT -> Cell stand-alone MODEM.
But that's because most (probably all) BT enabled cell phones _already_ do that. You get a GPRS connection directly between your laptop/PDA and your phone. And the beauty of BT is that there is no adapter/cable issue. It just works.
Then again that is only on GSM/GPRS networks. There are still no widely available BT handsets for CDMA. But that's QUALCOMM's fault.
As far as connecting a device to a laptop, yes - the USB device or PC card is the way to go (try Belkin or TDK). Ultimately, the Windows "drivers" that comes with the device are the most important part.

I'm glad this will change... Motorola has just announced the V710 today, with Bluetooth built-in:http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2531
This will add to the (short-lived) Sony Ericsson T608...

eBeam has a new whiteboard capture system that lets you capture whiteboard notes on PocketPC via Bluetooth. I've used their wired/serial version for a while in our conference room and it works great.

You can add the Socket Bluetooth 56K cordless modem to the list. I had some problems with getting it set up right, but once I did, it works like a champ with my Axim X30!! It's really a neat little unit, with rechargeable lion battery. Weighs 3 oz! Pocket size!! Great for using in areas without wireless access, or if you just want a 56k connection.

I have a hard time getting connection with my USB-dongle called "Billionton". I am not sure the drivers on the CD are approved by Microsoft. Should I buy a Belkin Bluetooth usb-device?
burnticej
Don't forget about the usb dongles! I use the ISSC 1002. (bluetooth 1.2 for stereo headphone)
How's the bluetooth v2.0 going. I heard that it would have enough signal strenght to overcome an about-1-mille distance!
In general, I have had good experiences using even generic.
And, about belkin. Don tell me I didn't warn you... [8]

I have a BT GPS that works great with my Ipaq 4155
The GPS is the OnCourse - Model BT-339. It´s SIRF chipped.
I also use mY Ipaq with Motorola's E-815 and had already tested (and passed) with Nokia's 6255 and 6265, Samsung A-915, Kyocera's KX-5 and LG's MX-510.
I have a Jabra BT-250V that work well with my phone. Since my Ipaq doesn't have the needed profle, I tested with a friend's Ipaq and it worked fine.
Finally, I use a Planet BT dongle with my PC and that I can Sync with the Ipaq, and use with my other BT gadgets.
I also have a question. Does anyone know about any Video Profile Implementation or any Video Equipment with Bluetooth interface, of course, that uses the BT to transmit and/or receive the video signal.
Thank you
