I have been considering upgrading from my Dell Axim 3 to a Dell Axim x51v for a while now because of the larger screen and the ability to do some word processing while I travel (I'm a pastor and would like a smaller alternative to my laptop). How should Dell's decision to discontinue selling the Axim affect my decision?
I also need to get a new cell phone, but am leery of getting an all-in-one device because of the cost of having to subscribe to a monthly media plan which is quite expensive and which I probably won't use right now.
If I decide to get the Axim x51v, where do I look?

There is either Dell or Ebay, from there I have no good thoughts.
You might snoop ebay for a couple of older units if you want to do typing. They are larger units, but way more appropriate for real work.
NEC Mopilepro 800, 880 or a half size of this is the mobilepro 780, 790. There is a newer operating system unit the mobilepro 900.
These have near full size keyboards. I use an 880 almost daily for Bible studies. It is an older OS but does a fine job for me. I have lots of study resources and use Olivetree.
I have an x3 and have used the foldable keyboard and does nicely, but not quite as nice to use if using Bible software etc.

Thanks for the info about NEC Mobile--a device I had not considered. Do you know if it is/can be made Wireless and Bluetooth compatible? Would I run Pocket PC versions of software programs on it or 'regular' versions--Word etc?
Thanks

Humm, posted a response earlier -- cyber trash can must have gotten it.
There is a board near the end of this forum for handhelds and several have the 900 series units and can answer your questions. It is a newer OS and does more than the older ones.
See www.usedhandhelds.com for some information on them or NEC's site also.
There are other 880 type units that are similar - IBM z50 (but try for the 32 meg version if you can) Jornada 820 and Vadem Clio. The vadem has a slightly smaller keyboard but not too bad.
These units use windows ce 2.1 so takes older software. The 880 can do wireless cards if you get the right one, but some secure sites can't be used.
The 880's come with Pocket word/excel etc. but they are a little limited for formatting. I use it as plain text editing so it is quite adequate. If you want a better office suite there is one, but it is a little pricey. http://www.softmaker.com/english/of_en.htm
