Don't you just love it when...

What is it with some people? They buy their first computer or PDA and the next week they consider themselves a foremost expert in all things technical.

Here is what irked me today:

A guy at work needed a new cell phone. A store (the same carrier he currently uses) nearby offers a 30% discount on equipment and a 20% discount on service if you shop through them. The guy says he is going down there but another person nearby tells him to go see his "friend" at another store. He says, "I have bought a bunch of stuff from him and he will take care of you." Well, I know from experience that any sales person is your friend when you are paying their commission, so I asked a few questions, being curious as to the savings he could offer.

He proceeds to tell me how he hooked him up with his cool phone and some accessories then he tells me the price. Well, with what he paid he could have gotten a Smartphone instead of the regular phone. He also tells me how he got one of the best prices on his "air card" for his laptop and a great monthly rate. He then tells me what he is paying for his unlimited data plan...and it is $20.00 more a month than the price at any other store!

He tried arguing with me that it is more because he has 3G, but I informed him that I was on 3G too and paying $20 less a month. I guess his so called "friend" somehow convinced him that he is on some other 3G network that is even better, because he was convinced that his 3G was faster than mine. Oh boy!

Anyway, he was trying to give advice on the best way to select a phone and a laptop to others and I just had to shake my head. There are some people that just will not listen and they are doomed to fail.
