Prior to WM5, the OS design used RAM for both program execution and as the default storage location. RAM requires a continuous trickle of power to maintain its contents. With WM5, the design changed so that RAM is only used for app execution and to hold working data such as documents being actively edited, much as on a desktop PC. WM5 began the practice of using non-volatile memory as the default storage location, and so doing away with the need for trickle power to maintain it. It is possible with most WM5 and WM6 devices to actually turn them completely off even though the default remains to have them go into a low-power sleep so that they wake up much more quickly for active use again. With an OS version of WM2003SE and earlier, do not ever let the battery go dead and keep a recent backup file available in case a dead bettery or other issue triggers a hard reset. And remember - even when turned off the device will use a small amount of power to keep the RAM memory area intact. Just as with a desktop PC, a state of no power wipes the RAM.
You can partly relieve the wiped memory problem by storing data on a memory card rather than in main memory. But a hard reset will still require a restore to return your device to its before-reset condition with apps and registry entires. That or the much more laborious process of reinstalling software. With much of the data for tthe built-in PIM spplets, though, storage can only be in the main memory and so using a card will not protect that info in case of a reset. So remember: backup, backup, backup.

Thanks for your reply. If I am not wrong you are saying that I have to buy a memory card to backup my data.
Thanks again

That would be a good solution.
