Hi. I bought a relatively cheap orinoco 80211b PC card from a computer store on ebay for my MobilePro 900 (I have not done the upgrade yet), and I can't get it to work at all. I loaded the orinoco drivers that were sent with it, followed the instructions, did the hard reset, the whole bit, and got nothing. Not even blinking lights. The seller sent me a different set of Agere drivers, and I have the same problem--no blinking lights, the "scan" function in the set up is greyed out and won't look for hot spots, and it says no drivers are loaded I sent the card back to the seller, and they said it works for them, so they sent it back to me. I feel like I have followed the instructions. Is there something I don't know about this brand of wifi card--or could I be doing something very wrong or very stupid. I would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks
GC

It's a Proxim Gold Orinoco 802.11b PC card, model # 8420-WD. The people I bought it from said it should work on a Mobilepro.
CE Geek
It should, but people are having inconsistent results with the Proxim ORiNOCO card. The older Agere and Lucent versions are more reliable.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll fiddle with it a bit more and then see if I can send it back. Perhaps when I finally get a chance to try the upgrade that will make a difference.
CE Geek
If you're planning to upgrade to the Cmonex v2 ROM (which includes the Agere driver), there's no harm in trying it after the upgrade to see if it will work then. I'd suggest you go ahead with the upgrade and then try the card again before sending it back.

Thanks so much for the link. There are three cab files (and many other files) to choose from here: sys1, data1, and user1. Do I need all three? Should I drag some of the other files into the Windows folder. Sorry for the basic questions.
CE Geek
No, just run Setup.exe and it will place the CAB files you need on the host PC (usually in \Program Files).

"No, just run Setup.exe and it will place the CAB files you need on the host PC (usually in \Program Files)."
I am assuming that by host PC you mean my main computer, not my MobilePro. My host PC is a Mac, and I don't use activesync. The Mac won't open setup.exe (it's not sure what to open it with). If you meant just run setup.exe on the Mobilepro, then I'll just try that (I'd test it now, but I don't have the Mobilepro with me at work). If not, is there a way to accomplish this by just moving files onto my Mobilepro?
Thanks for any ideas.

Then you are going to have to find a Windows machine to run the setup on and copy everything to a memory card to install the files you need....

Thanks again for all the advice. I'll have to try that next week.

Ok, here's another probably basic question. Based on my attempts, am I right in assuming that I have to install activesync on the pc that I borrow--not to sync with my mobilepro, but just to get the cab files to put on a cf card?
CE Geek
Not necessarily. Windows XP has an extraction utility built in that can extract some self-extracting installer .exe files. Right-click on the installer icon and look for "Extract files" among the menu choices. If it's there, problem solved.

It took awhile, but I finally had the cab extracted for me and sent to me, and it worked! Thank you both for the info.
