No Internet from my wireless network

I am using a Nec 790--Windows 3.0--IE VER 4.0--My PCI card is an old Lucent Technologies WaveLan using Agree drivers for Windows 3.0
All five signal bars in the task bar are lit and my connection is excellent. Every time I double tap IE icon the same message pops up "A connection with the server could not be established". I have tried everything to get this thing on line but,to no avail. Please help if you have any ideas.

Thanks much

You'll need to be more specific as to what you've tried. If you've tried "everything," then there's nothing left to suggest.

Thanks for responding. I have tried everything I know which is somewhat limited. It was suggested by the tiptonian on an old post to get this old wavelan card and use the agere drivers. I did that after some time with the results I posted. I also tried Orinoco Gold card--don't remember what drivers were used. It did work one time with a wpc11 card with prismnds.dll drivers--then i tried to connect to another network and lost the ability to get on the internet. Tried to reinstall but, it would never work again. Think I heard where it might work with WL 100 drivers. On this wavelan card I installed the agere drivers for windows 3.0 ce. I installed the card. Have my network working fine in the Client window. Connection is excellent. Encryption is 128 bit wep. Still cannot get on the internet when I double tap IE. This is about all I know if you have any suggestions would sure appreciate it.

try a non wep, open wifi signal and see what happens...some public place. If you can connect there, then you know it has something to do with wep...

Richard,

Thanks much---Will try that at the local library. Will not be able to go until Wednesday. Will get back to you.

Richard,

Tried to connect at the local library. Very strong open signal. Still get the same message when I double click IE.

Hmmm, okay, go to the control panel, click on the network icon, and when the window opens, find the name of your wifi card in the window and click on the properties button.

When that window opens, make sure that the "obtain an ip address via dhcp" option is checked.

Other than that...either the wifi card is bad (unlikely), the 790 is bad (unlikely), or you have the wrong or bad software driver installed...

If you have someone local who can help you great...otherwise you might have to send the card to someone else to try for you. I'd be glad to check it out on my 790 and see what happens if you want...just send me a private email if you go that route.

Rich
