Can one convert 'm4p' music fille format?

From what I understand, with third party utilities, the answer is no. But I beleive it's possible within the ITunes player for Windows to convert the file to MP3. Not sure though as I've never used it.

Here’s what I found out that works, using the ITune and WMP v9 to convert M4P files to MP3 (and/or WMA). No other 3rd party program was used.

(1) Yes, Itune itself has a feature for converting downloaded M4P files to MP3. When I tried that, however, I got a
message, “these M4P files are protected property and cannot be converted to MP3.

(2) Luckily ITune also has another feature for burning downloaded files directly to CD-R as “Audio CD”, in the .cda
format.

(3) So, I used this CD-burning feature to burn a music CD with all purchased music files.

(4) Then, I opened up Windows Media Player v.9, and used the feature ,“copy files from CD” to convert the .cda files
from CD to WMA or MP3 files to the Library.

As a logical exercise, you could have just chosen, in WMP, "Copy to Mobile Device" to replace part of number 4.

Thaks for your posting. I just tested it but all of my files were exported to CD as w4p files. Do you need to change a preference somewhere?
