I am getting ready to upgrade from the ATT 8525 to the 8925 and need a backup program to backup the device and the storage card to a PC. I have been using an ASUS A716 with extra memory for 4 years, and it had much more available memory which allows me to keep programs on the device. The 8525 and 8925 do not have enough memory to store the programs I need, so I will need to load them onto the storage card. Hence the need to backup both the device and the storage card in a usable and restorable format.

To backup the card, I would suggest simply creating a folder on your PC's hard drive and copying the card contents into it. To backup the device's internal memory, you should be able to do that using the backup functions built into ActiveSync or WM Device Center (whichever you use). Keep in mind that you cannot use backup/restore to do a wholesale move of apps and data between two different device models because there will be hardware differences and the consequent driver differences. If you find yourself needing to restore an AS/WMDC full backup to your device, I have found the best process to be a hard reset followed by connection to the host PC in guest mode. The guest mode connection gives you access to the restore functions without creating a second partnership and the headaches that can cause.

If you were loading to the same device, I would recommend one of the backup pograms such as Sprite Backup, but just as YankeeJeep said, a different device will not allow you to load the programs automatically.
