activesync breaks my USB tethered internet sharing connection

 New here, hope I'm in right section. Here is what I got:

Carrier - Alltel

Phone - PPC 6800 with WM 6 pro

Laptop OS - Vista 32 SP 1

here is issue:

I establish a tethered EVDO connection via USB using the Alltel "internet sharing" program. The connection either works briefly or immediately terminates when it appears that activesync buts in and  tries to do it's own thing and indeed I get a warning message saying that activesync must be turned off for internet sharing to work. Well, I can turn it off or cancel it, but it keeps coming back and breaking the internet sharing connection. Eventually all of this activesync stuff stops and it all starts working properly but I'd much prefer not to have to go through this. Is there any fix? Thanks.

I realize this must be a common issue but I did search a bit first. Sorry.
