SO I bought this software (orinoco wifi card) off ebay.
I installed the software onto my mobilepro 790 via cf card.
It is picking up on hotspots, but I can't seem to get Expolrer to pickup on the server so that I can actually view webpages.
I am a cluts when it comes to computer configutations and things of that nature. I need the "MobilePro 790 Wifi Connection FOR DUMMIES" version if you can help.
I don't know what I've missed or what I'm doing wrong.
I tried creating new connections (under remote networking) but I have only 2 options as far as devices go:
1. Infared Port
2. Serial Cable on COM1
Shouldn't there be a choice for the wifi card I installed?
I don't know, but I hope you could help!

if you can see anything on ie at a hotspot then there's nothing wrong ...the ie on a790 is just so old ...like 4 or 5 that nit many sites support it anymore ...an nec 900c will still work ok and is almost twice as fast...which is still pretty slow by todays standards. nif you are seeing nothing then check that the orinoco card is a 16bit card and you have the ce 3 drivers on the 790. they should show up under installed applications. you don't need to make a connection ...itbwill just work once the drivers are there. btw, theorinoco card also works great with the 900c..it's what I use on mine.

You say that it's "picking up on hotspots." What's telling you that on the 790? Is more than one of the signal bars in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen) staying green, or are the five bars lighting green one at a time in sequence? Have you opened the Agere client (in Start -> Programs) and selected "Edit Wireless Profiles" to check for available wireless networks? When you say you can't connect to the server, I assume you mean you're getting an error message on the screen in Pocket Internet Explorer that says "A connection with the server could not be established." Let us know what you've done so far and what you're seeing on the screen so far.

Hi. I had trouble connecting with my mobilepro 900 and downloaded and (re)installed the Handheld PC Pro 128-bit SSL Update and the machine seems to work fine with most websites now. It's here, and is a little past halfway down. Did you try a soft reset with the card still in the machine?
