I know most of the time you see complaints about backlights not being bright enough or not coming on etc... etc... But in my case the backlight of my PPC 6700 phone keeps coming on. For example, if I put the phone in "sleep" mode by pushing the power button... It goes off. Great! However, within 5 minutes or so (randomly) the damn thing pops back on for a few minutes and then goes back out. I have checked all the power and light settings and they are all normal and don't seem to be the cause for this. What could be causing this and how do I fix it. This drives me crazy at night when the thing comes on and shines right in my eyes waking me up.
Help anyone!!!! Thanks,

I think it has something to do with your settings of the alerts - mine comes on the same way, but I chose it to alert me with the light flashing.

This was happening to me. I found out that I had the email settings
set to check every hour. Change your settings.

It's not email, it's not any application that I added. I know this because yesterday I hard-reset the phone and wiped everything....Now with the phone back to factory defaults, it still does it.
What I have noticed however is that it only does it when connected to external power. When on battery power, the backlight only comes on when the screen or button is touched or the phone rings. When on external power, the light comes on every 5 to 6 minutes, stays on for 1 minute and then goes back off.....
Any other ideas???? And why only on external power?

Yep, I've got EXACTLY the same problem here. [xx(]
I thought it was caused by ActiveSync but even disabled with the "ActiveSync Toggle" program it still turns on by itself at non-regular interval, then turns off and back on a bit later...
Been like this for over a year now and still can't find any explanation for this behaviour! Snif... [:(]

Well, if anyone ever finds a solution or answer as to why it does PLEASE PLEASE post it. What I do at night now is just place the phone face down so I don't see it light up...

Thanks.

Anyone ever get to the bottm of this? I just bought my PPC 7600 the other week and it's doing this also.??

Dspent, does it come on every 5 minutes or just once after turning off the display? I know that some versions of the 6700's have a software bug that causes that to happen just like some newer versions of the 6700's that have a big problem with the touchscreen alignment. Maybe a rom upgrade will fix that. I think the newest rom version is 2.06.00 WWE, also if all else fails and you have the protection plan from your carrier, take it in for a check up, like with Sprint, if they cant fix it at the Sprint Store, they will give you a new unit. They always have for me.

This has been happening to me, on my PPC 6800 Mogul. It would randomly turn on minutes or hours after I turn it off and put it down. It does it multiple times. Fortunately, it turns itself off soon after. This happens when it is on battery or external power.
I have only had it for a week and it's driving me crazy. I've searched all over the internet and tried everything I could. My concern is not only over the wasted battery, but the possibility to have random things get activated once I am comfortable putting the phone in my purse without using the case.
There was recently a ROM update, so I applied it. I was hoping the upgrade would address the issue and/or wipe all applications/settings that could be causing it. However, even after the update, my phone would still turn on by itself.
Then, I turned off the phone function aka switched to flight mode. The problem didn't appear but then the Mogul became useless as a phone.
I went to the Sprint store for help but due some new policy, they wouldn't have a tech look at it without charging $15, or would do it for free if I had insurance, which I just got that morning. It takes 24 hours for that to show up in their system. Anyway, I decided I'd wait a couple of weeks before returning since the phone is so new that they aren't very familiar with it.
What concerns me is that this has happened in a previous model and there is no clear solution. :(
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences.

This is no longer happening to my unit...
Something happened a few months ago and the unit reset itself. All files/settings etc. erased (luckily I keep my personal stuff on a storage card).
After that however the light cuts off AND STAYS OFF when I plug it in to charge. It also appears to be working correctly when unplugged as well. I don't know if it had something to do with the GoodLink application or a new patch/upgrade sent OTA from Sprint or my corporation, but it works and that's fine with me.
