SCSI Devices Work on Pocket PC!

SCSI Devices Work on Pocket PC!

I've been following the "HARD DRIVES" thread with interest. And also the "STORAGE BRICK" thread.

I've got a collection of SCSI devices lying around, including CD-R/RW, Hard Disk, Iomega Zip and Jaz drives, from when I supported Mac's. So, taking the ebay route, I've just received my Adaptec 1460D card last night (All I had before were a bunch of 1460A models.)

So, trying this on both iPAQ 3650 w/Pocket PC 2002 and iPAQ 5455 w/Pocket PC 2002, I've gotten it to work.

Using the iPAQ series as it supports the Expansion Sleeves. I have the PC Card Expansion Pack Plus.

I followed the procedure (very short and simple) found onhttp://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/Articles/SCSI/ , and plugged it right in. As the article states, for devices with removable media, just have it inserted and the device powered up prior to placing the Adaptec card in the PC Card slot.

Can't believe how easy this was. For the Jornada 820, 690 and 720 I was able to just run the setup file in the Adaptec driver file and it took care of the rest. I haven't tried on any other PDA's yet, as the above are the only ones I have that have PC Card support.

OK - now for real world usage? possibly use as a library for my collection of Audio and video files? Also for my library of .LIT books? It could possibly work well to replace my laptop on a trip, using the SCSI Hard Drive as a *huge* CF memory card replacement?
Works GREAT! as a Backup option as well!!!

Now that I've got this done, the next thing on my list will be to test the Ratoc USB to CF Card adapter. Much larger hard drive there.

Thanks for listening, and now back to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.
