For the Pocket pC 2002, Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition, Handheld PC 2000, and Windows Powered SmartPhone 2002
Hardware accessories add functionality and help personalize Windows Powered devices. We list accessories from third-party starting on page 94 of this issue, and mention a number of them in "10 Ways to Make a Good Thing Better," beginning on page 34.
This article focuses on hardware accessories marketed by the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of the various Pocket PCs and Handheld PCs. To be listed here, the accessory had to have been listed on the OEMs' Web sites prior to publication of this issue in early September of 2002. However, the availability of these accessories changes without notice. The accessories must meet the following criteria:
- Cannot be listed as "discontinued"
- May be listed as "out of stock" or "not available online"
- Must be sold by the OEM (can be a third-party product if the OEM sells it; cannot simply be a link to a third-party vendor)
- Must be available to individual consumers.
The following device categories are covered: Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition, and the Handheld PC 2000. The Windows Powered SmartPhone 2002 has not been formally introduced in the U.S. We include an accessory listing for the Sendo SmartPhone based on pre-release information we have received, but the Sendo Z100 and its accessories may not be available in the U.S. until early 2003, and the accessories list for the Z100 may change.
The accessories in this article are listed alphabetically first by the name of the manufacturer and then by the name of the accessory. A single asterisk (*) next to an accessory indicates that the item will work with another manufacturer's devices. For example, a CompactFlash card marketed by Casio will work with HP's Pocket PC. If we list an accessory more than once, it means that there is a different version of the accessory for a different model. For example, we list separate AC power adapters for the Casio E-200 and BE-300 because the adapter for the E-200 doesn't work with the BE-300, and vice versa.
